Transitions Project - Transgender people
Transgender (trans) people do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth, to varying degrees. Trans communities include a broad spectrum of diverse individuals with a variety of gender identities and expressions, and some may seek means of physical transformation.
Trans people disproportionately experience familial and social rejection, also known as transphobia, which leaves them more vulnerable to risky behaviors like sex work, silicone injections, and unsafe hormone, drug, and alcohol use.
Trans people face multiple barriers to receiving adequate healthcare, including the lack of knowledgeable and sensitive service providers.
