TEPOT - Sensitivity Training Program
In collaboration with National Asian Pacific American Families Against Substance Abuse (NAPAFASA), TEPOT’s STP program provides complimentary cultural sensitivity trainings for staff of substance abuse and community health treatment programs.
During the 3-hour facilitated workshops, the program aims to improve treatment efficiency towards underrepresented and highly stigmatized Asian/Pacific Islander (API) populations, including men who have sex with men (MSM), female sex workers (FSW), and transgender (TG) populations.
Through discussion and brainstorming, Sensitivity Training aims to improve provider awareness and institute strategies for addressing culturally-specific Asian and Pacific Islander concerns.
STP curriculum addresses:
- The interplay of culture and risk: How HIV impacts Asians and Pacific Islanders
- Stigma and silence as barriers to health intervention
- Cultural sensitivity concerns of high-risk groups in the API community: men who have sex with men (MSM), high-risk women, and transgender populations
Intended Outcomes:
- Increased provider awareness of HIV/AIDS risk factors for API transgender, MSM, and female sex worker populations
- Strengthened communication between providers and transgender, MSM, and female sex worker clients
