Alberto Curotto, PhD

In my work at CAPS, my primary focus has been on qualitative and mixed-methods HIV-prevention research with gay and bisexual men. I’ve worked in various capacities—as co-investigator, interviewer, project coordinator, and project director—on a number of projects (funded by the CDC, the NIMH, and the CHRP) aimed at exploring the role of the Internet in the lives of gay men and its potential as a tool for HIV prevention and sexual-health promotion. I have also participated, as an ethnographer, in venue-based studies with the goal to evaluate the venues’ role in HIV-risk behaviors and to develop venue-specific interventions. Most recently, I have been working on collaborative research with community-based organizations and public-health organizations.

In a not-too-distant past, I was a college professor of foreign languages and literature, and a free-lance editor and published translator.
